CUFS reports:

Not all CUFS reports have a selection parameter for owner/category. However, there are some budget comparison and account analysis reports that do include this option.

All new Cognos flexible reports have an option to select the owner/catebory when setting parameters.

Q. What can I use as an alternative to the Journals Line Report (UFS)?

Run an on-line Journal Enquiry in GL instead. This can be run for either a specific journal batch, particular time period or journal types and combinations thereof. This will return the results in a summary screen – which is folder enabled and from which you could further customise, export or drill down to a specific journal or batch.

Alternatively, run the Cognos GL Journal Transactions report.

Q. Why shouldn't I post a GL journal to the M sources of funds?

Expenditure in M sources of funds reflect the spend on grants, plus any central adjustments (e.g. for transfers of overspends to departments and FX gains and losses). We use the M source of funds expenditure to calculate our research expenditure for statutory reporting, and this is also the basis for calculating our reported research income.

GL postings to M sources of funds should only come from one of two sources:

  • Transactions transferring across from the grants module
  • GL journals posted by the Research Accounting section of the Finance Division (e.g. overspend transfers, FX postings)

If other GL journal postings are made to M sources of funds this will be reported in our research figures, but will have bypassed the grants module and could lead to errors in claims submitted to sponsors.

Corrections to M source of funds should generally be made via the grants module. Research Accounting can help you if you have any problems which you think may need an M source of funds journal to correct.

Q. I have entered a pre-approved batch (journal) in the Grants module and cannot find the amount posted on the GL code

Check that the journal has been submitted and released, and that the transactions have not failed funds checking, which will show on the daily exception report. Once funds checking has taken place (at midday or overnight), the grants side will post immediately. The GL side is posted via overnight processing. Allow at least two days for the GL side to post, then contact your Research Services Administrator/Advisor (RSA) for help.

Q. There is an amount posted in the GL with the description "Projects", how do I find out where this posting has originated from?

The entry will be the GL side of a miscellaneous transaction (journal transfer) entered in the Grants Module. The Cost Audit report, which is available in the Grants Module (AUD: Cost Audit Report), will give a listing of the project code, expenditure type and item date for each amount that makes up the GL posting.

Refer to the detailed document in Research Grants for instructions on how the use the report, and look up the original journal.

Q. How do I use the ADI tool in Excel?

In Excel, go to File > Options > Customize Ribbon

  • In the Main tab region, tick the Developer box
  • This will display a Developer tab at the top of the screen
  • Under the new Developer tab select Macro Security and tick the Trust access to the VBA project object model

Any problems please ring UFS General Helpdesk on 65999 or email

Q. My ADI journals are not loading

We have been informed of a number of users who are experiencing issues when attempting to upload previously saved ADI template journals.

You are no longer able to use saved ADI templates from before the upgrade.

Please download a new ADI journal, and copy your data into this. You can save this new template and use it from now on.

Old templates can be identified by the blue background colour, while the new templates have a white background.

If you receive an error message while downloading a new ADI journal, please clear your cache and try again.
