There are a number of different reporting tools currently available to enable staff to extract and analyse financial information from UFS

UFS

Standard reports and online enquiries run directly within UFS that generally  provide "real-time" data. If desired some of which can also be exportable to Excel if further analysis required.

General ledger Part 2 - Reporting in the General ledger

This course provides users the opportunity to run General Ledger reports and how to interpret them when managing departmental funds.

Grants Part 3 - Viewing grants in CUFS

This course provides an overview of the Grants module in CUFS. The course will cover how you can view your projects and awards, check budgets, perform on-line queries and run some CUFS reports.

Cognos

Admin Reporting provides a secure web-based reporting service to the University using the Cognos tool.
The information provided complements those reports already available from the applications such as UFS, CamSIS and CHRIS and provide the facility to empower users to interrogate data to generate reports for themselves.
Data is as per the previous night.

This introductory course is designed for new reporters - covering everything from running a report successfully as well as a number of useful tips and shortcuts.

General ledger Part 2 - Reporting in the General ledger

This course provides users the opportunity to run General Ledger reports and how to interpret them when managing departmental funds.

Grants Part 2 - Grants reports in Cognos

This course will concentrate on how to use the Cognos reporting tool to help manage departmental research grants. These reports can be divided into three main categories:

  • Summary financial information for Projects
  • Detailed expenditure analysis
  • Management reports for Grants due to close

In this course we will not access the Grants module in CUFS.

These are online packages of material including videos, documents and quizzes. They can be completed at any time and do not need to be booked.
 
They are ideal for use as a refresher or for training new staff if a virtual course is not available at a suitable time.

  • How to create a personal version of a report (report view)
  • How to schedule reports

Excel 

Data from Cognos, UFS reports and enquiries can often be exported into Excel where they can be further manipulated and analysied using generic functions of Excel spreadsheets.

How to Excel - Parts 1 and 2 (for finance staff) 

This course will enable the participants to practice existing spreadsheet skills and develop more advanced skills within the context of UFS data. There will be the opportunity to extract data from the system and learn to manipulate, analyse and use it for reporting purposes. The course runs over two sessions and participants will need to attend both of these sessions.

How to Excel - Part 3 (for finance staff)

The session will look at more advanced formulas and macros using the recorder and VBA tools.

The formulas covered in this course include SUMIF and COUNTIF which will allow the user to quickly summarise data.

Macros will enable the user to automate tasks within excel. During this session, we will use the example of needing to analyse, sort, split and send data to specific email contacts. Users will be introduced to a series of macros to reduce this process to a few simple steps.
